I don't know what to tell you fam. I guess you had to be there. This is a fact:

Doggystyle debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling 806,858 copies in its first week alone in the United States, which was the record for a debuting artist and the fastest-selling hip-hop album ever.

Not only was Snoop's first album the fastest selling hip hop album, it set a record for a debut artist of ANY genre. How old are you by the way?[/I]
Snoop a legend and this is impressive but Views did more than this. Without even including streams
"In the United States, Views debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, with 1.04 million album-equivalent units, selling 852,000 copies in its first week of release"

The answer is Eminem.

50% of the most common thing a white person would say and the early 2000 was "I listen to rock and Eminem"

Snoop at his peak is not bigger than Drake is now because rap wasn’t as big back then

Plus Drake peak is longer than Snoops

Your kids know Snoop as a rapper just like they know LL cool J or 50 cent as rappers

As far as peak popularity based strictly off rap we haven’t seen what Drake is doing before

Jay z music career will always Be up there off the sheer longevity but he didn’t even reach the highs that Drake has

You gotta look at it from a global perspective, breh.

Drake strategically has touched everything from the US, to Africa, to Latin America, to the UK.

I'm convinced his next record will have a K-Pop and Bollywood track to make the cipher complete.

"Doggystyle" is a rap album.

Drake himself will point blank tell you the biggest songs off "Views" aren't even rap. He's said his primary focus is being a pop star.

Drake Disputes Grammys Category Placement: 'Hotline Bling' 'Is 'Not a Rap Song'

“I’m apparently a rapper, even though ‘Hotline Bling’ is not a rap song. The only category they can manage to fit me in is in a rap category, maybe because I’ve rapped in the past or because I’m black. I can’t figure out why.”

“There’s pop obligations they have, and I fluked out. I fluked out and got one of the biggest songs of the year that is a pop song and I’m proud of that. I love the rap world and I love the rap community… I write pop songs for a reason. I want to be like Michael Jackson. I want to be like artists that I looked up to. Those are pop songs, but I never get any credit for that,” he speculated.

So....nah. Silly thread. I'll never get why his fan base keeps trying to shoe horn him into the rap category.

Doggystyle sold 4million within a year of its release. Views...not so much. For it to even be a comparison you have to get into that beef stew of mystery "album equivalent units" which can include streams, youtube views, facebook likes and who knows what else :heh:

It doesn't even matter that much unless you think Views has a the cultural significance of doggystyle.

In 20 years, when hiphop albums are looked back on, Doggystyle will be mentioned as "a pivotal moment that defined an era for gangsta rap and rap music as a whole." Views will be mentioned as "Drakes 4th studio album."

Views went 4x platinum in under a year and will have sold 6 million SPS by the end of the year

Doggystyle obviously a classic and a landmark record but that's not what this discussion is about so save that for when it matters.

So him saying the biggest song off "Views" ain't rap....when you're comparing it to a rap album....in a thread asking is he the biggest rapper....despite him saying he wants to be a pop star like Micheal Jackson....ain't relevant.
And we're the ones jumping through hoops?
