I'd say that about Don Q
taking an L to a singer and making generic music over trap beats when he could have been right up there with the real spittas of this generation.
Dave at least has better music to go back to. Don Q made expendable trash. His attitude cost him the light. He would be where Benny and them are today but he thought people wanted to hear him make generic garbage music. the end.

the problem is he was always a mid-tier rapper(popularity wise) who was never gonna sell a bunch of records because his lane is gritty NYC records and not mainstream shyt
people mistook him gaining popularity amongst females as having musical buzz and overstated his music careers trajectory when the reality is those females dont fw his music they just like the way that he looks so he's like a male IG model in a sense
but he's played it smart and finessed it into an acting and modeling career so hes not hurting in any way even if music doesnt work out

Dave East buzz began in 2014 with the Black Rose tape and Straight Outta Harlem tape on the blog sites which then led to Nas signing him.
It is now 2020 and Dave East is still around. He is 31 years old now, he doesn't use melodies, he doesn't really sing, he's a street rapper in a generation where that's not the go-to. Lil Uzi is the biggest artist from his freshman class. His music isn't mediocre, he doesn't suck. He is a very solid rapper and has a lot of really strong projects if you really listen. He is a good storyteller, very introspective, and usually picks dope beats although he works with lesser known producers.
He recently completed his tour for his debut album, he just framed a plaque for his Chris Brown record that went Gold, his role as Method Man in the Wu-Tang Hulu series got renewed for a second season with more modeling and acting gigs to come, and Karma 3 will be released soon.
East drives a cocaine colored Range and has a nice house in Bergen County. 10 years ago he was involved in dusty nikka activities recording off a mic in buildings and moving up and down the Northeast and Midatlantic.
Stop projecting what his career should look like based on homo fantasies.

Don Q is a very humble solid dude that doesn't care much for the fame. He is satisfied being A-Boogie's second fiddle.

What I meant by A-Boogie’s second fiddle is that he’s comfortable with his position. He understands the hierarchy in the label right now they’re trying to push Trap Manny. Obviously he would like to get respect on the merits of his music rather than being seen as some guy A-Boogie is carrying. But I could tell you breh doesn’t care for the fame like that.
Dave is probably inferior to Don as a pure spitter but Dave is the better artist
