Is confidence the most important thing for a basketball player to have?

It seems so. A nikka can be cold af but if he dont have confidence he'll be trash (odom) and alot of people who have all the confidence in the world seem to over achieve in the league.

This "confidence" thing bothers me in pro sports. You've been playing said sport ALL your life and you've made it to the highest level yet you lack or lose "confidence" at times.

Just like the "he lacks experience" cliche. Certain positions that acceptable like QB but for those other positions, :rudy:

You have to have talent first. I would say confidence is 2nd though.

Obviously, but i feel confidence may be equal. Odom may be one of the most talented players in the league in his prime, but there were people put up better or equal numbers who were less talented, and i think thats because they had more confidence in their abilities.

Yeah but you can have all the confidence in the world, but if you're 5'6", 320 pounds and uncoordinated you're not going to the league.

Everyone in the NBA is talented. That's the first criteria. Not everyone in the league is confident. You have to be talented just to get on the stage. Once there, confidence will help you excel on it.

True for the NBA, but i put basketball player and not NBA player in the thread title for a reason. I only asked because i was hooping yesterday and this little girl was playing with us. She was bad the first game but ended up making the winning point. After that she i guess she got some confidence and started killing nikkas, she was doing floating lay ups on grown ass men in the paint and wetting shots far away like reggie miller :ohlawd:

Mind you she was like 14

There's no doubt confidence is important. Truth be told, it's the most important thing in life. Every successful person knows that little secret of life.

When LeBron was in HS a reporter asked Kobe about him and Kobe said he's a good player, as long as he believes in himself he'll be fine. That's the absolute truth. Life is what you make it. It all starts in the mind. The first step to success is envisioning it.

But confidence is important in developing talent too so I now agree with you.

I've always figured it to be the biggest difference between Kobe & and a dude you can barely make Charlotte's roster.

They all can play.

Outside of physical prep, the only thing seperating these guys is; so just know they will ball out and others are not so sure.

.

Not so sure about that. Confidence is important, but when it comes to the elite level players (Kobe, LeBron) or even those on the immediate tier below (Chris Paul, Dirk) confidence isn't gonna put you on that level. JR Smith is prolly one of the most confident players in the league but he is never gonna be on Kobe/Wade's level
