I like the fact that their trying to bring credablity back to the belt instead of hot potatoing it but isnt the fact that Punk isn't main eventing PPV's hurting his changes of being a big player?

You worded your question strangely. It should be: Is CM Punk's lengthy reign helping him bring cred to the title or making the title less credible?

OR

Is CM Punk's lengthy reign making him more credible or actually hurting him?

For the first question, a title looks credible when you make it appear that everyone is going for it. Punk's feuds as a champion this go around have rarely been about people chasing the title and more about not liking him as a person. So the credibility of title has not gone either up or down.

For the second question, the long title reign has definitely helped Punk because now he will always be able to claim that he was not a transitional champion and was more or less the face of the company at one point in time. Not many can say that.

It's not bringing any prestige or credibility back to the title if you're treating it like an afterthought to whatever flavor of the month gimmick storyline they're pushing in the main event instead. Then you have the cancer Cena burying the title every other show to instead put himself over. :snoop:

The storyline also hurts Punk in the eyes of casuals/marks because its real to them so they use it to somehow blame Punk for not main-eventing.

More like bringing cred to him (perhaps to some degree) and hurting the title.

Above all else I know that Punk has been WWE champion for a loooooong time. The fact that I don't consider it on the level of a Kofi Kingston or Shelton IC reign means something. I've never forgotten Punk was the champ.

Do people remember that Ziggler holds that case? :usure: Did Cena even cash is in? :wtf:

Do you all remember that Del Rio is a two time champ? :heh:

The thing with Cena addresses the #1 complaint about his reign. He jobbed a main event spot to Johnny L vs Cena..that speaks volumes about his title reign.

A long reign is well and good but he's suffering from not having the main title in the company, "Mr. Hustle Loyalty Respect" John Cena. Any full timer on the current roster getting the title would suffer the same fate, which is why it's easy to forget ADR is a 2-time champ and Cena already cashed in. Unless John Cena has the title or it's being defended against John Cena that belt don't mean shyt, word to Vince Russo.

That's why I found it funny that Cena and Bret said Punk was HBK while Cena is Bret, yet when Bret was champ HBK got most of the main events in 96/97. I know they did it for storyline purposes and being in Canada but still :russ:

The lengthy reign is good for Punk because it makes him seem like a legit champ, but let's keep it real....the WWE title match hasnt closed a ppv since 2011. If Cena wins on Sunday then it only means that Punk had this reign only to be fed to Cena in the main event. I give the E credit for actually letting the man run with the belt but if the reign and the title means anything to them....then Phil has to walk out of NOC as a champ. It really would look kind of silly to put the belt on the guy who's spent 2012 trying to convey that the title doesn't mean shyt.
