Inspired by Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad.

It's not my favorite movie but it's a masterpiece for sure. I don't know man. There are so many amazing movies that came out in the 1970s.
The wild thing is, you could make a documentary about the making of the movie...and that would probably also be amazing in itself.

Yeah this is one of those very few times where I actually think the movie is better than the book

There actually is a doc about the making of the movie and all of the ups and downs that went into making this iconic and legendary movie

The doc is called Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse

During the Vietnam War, an American captain is assigned a mission in Cambodia, to search and assassinate a renegade colonel, who has taken innocent lives and is believed to be a demigod by a tribe.

I LIVE IN A CARDBOARD BOX!
Francis was just throwing gems at the screen whether it be in the director's chair or as a screenwriter throughout the 70's. Started the decade off with Patton (screenwriter) and ended it with Apocalypse Now! (director/screenwriter) and he gave us Godfather 1 & 2 and The Conversation in between all of that. :wow: That's a GOAT tier career in itself.

Martin Sheen coming up out the muddy pond as thunder cracks is one of my favorite shots of all time

My favorite is at the very end of the Redux version when Willard and Lance are leaving on the boat and the second time they replay Brando saying "the horror, the horror" and you see the helicopters, Sheen's eyes and face in camouflage and you see his eyes look from left to right and you see the flames, and the statue to the right of the screen. He captures so much in that one very last shot, it's unbelievable.

my mom made me watch it as a kid. It’s one of those really atmospheric type of movies with a odyssey like story. The story starts simple enough but it grows more and more surrealistic but still grounded in reality. The war, the mission, the setting gets crazier as he goes along. He doesn’t know what to believe anymore
