There's a lot of asian dudes that got put on Aaliyah off this movie and stan her.

Yeah, this is probably true. I remember seeing this movie on opening weekend back in basic training (actually, AIT). I went with a homie who was asian (might've been chinese, but I'm honestly not sure/can't remember/don't know if I ever knew tbh). Anyways, going into the movie and just off previews, as he had seemingly limited prior knowledge of Aaliyah and even moreso after, duke was big crushing on Aaliyah.

Funny enough, there was this chick stationed in our area as well, not sure if she was in our barracks, but I think was at least in some of our classes. I got to know her a bit and she had a similar Aaliyah-esq look, even moreso to him, considering his lack of black women IRL experience and he was big pushing me to get with her, in good part of how much he felt she resembled Aaliyah (not really IMO, but she was pretty cute and light skin with that sort of typical hair/weave). I might even still have the picture of her.

That's white male privilege for you. They never had any issue doing anything potentially sexual with any other race. And it's all subliminal messaging (maybe even more overt really) to showcase white men as being the most desirable of the sexes and genders. Disgusting conditioning really.

Yea I do agree. White men(and white women) are seen as default and so whatever they do, look like is seen as the standard and "normal". Everyone else is a deviation from that. That's why whiteness can blind ppl to how fukking ugly some of these WM be. Like absolutely hideous.
