I took it as him saying, during that era…business wise a white successful male/COO of major music label plugging you in to other white males/CEOs/investors…can get you access to more money/opportunities.

If anything, I would think it’s racism amongst white people. To a white NBA owner, Lebron saying Ty Lue is an elite won’t resonate as much as Pat Riley saying Ty Lue is an elite coach.
