You're talking about two different things.
1. I dont get into 'shoulds'. Certain economic conditions lead to certain economic outcomes. A preponderance of wealthy single men leads to a preponderance of hoes. I dont make the rules.
2. Womens virtue is praised under particular circumstances. The european middle ages for example was an era where inheritance law meant everything. Thus, womens virtue was protected in furtherance of patriarchys needs, not due to any inherent value of a womans virtue.

Before DNA testing men never knew with 100% certainty whether or not the kids was actually his. So to maximize the probability the child is his, men would choose to only commit/marry women who were not known to be promiscous and/or were virgins.
