Did the Iran Iraq War happen or not?

1.From what I've read the death rate were staggering. With Iran doing mass wave attacks across mine fields. While the brave Ayatollahs sat at home issuing death lists of their local population.

2. Yeah the Phalange were really going to concur Lebanon...
Iran clearly believes in ethnic cleansing.
:leostare:

3. Where is the disconnect then?

Lol what is your point? The point of the thread was contrasting American foreign policy and military engagements and that of Iran. Now if you wanna bring up Irans terrorist acts and proxy involvements, thats a valid conversation we can have. To bring up the Iraq-Iran war, which was a war of aggression launched by Iraq against Iran while they were going through one of the greatest social upheavels of the 20 the centuries is ridicolous. It was a war of defence. Now it ceased being one after 1983 but at that point they wanted Saadams head but thats besides the point. Its a horrible point to make.

Once again, you miss the point. If supporting proxies all of a sudden makes a country an irresponsible actor and worthy or being tarred as an aggressive irrational nation than many countries can be similiarly judged, most of all, your country

The point is, miss with that double standards bullshiit

...so we ignore this?

Iran

...or the fact that Iran has been sponsoring extremist Hezbollah in Lebanon? Which is something that even Al-Jazeera acknowledges?

I mean, I understand what the OP is trying to say but let's not front like the Islamic Republic of Iran has a blank moral slate.

"The war began when Iraq invaded Iran, launching a simultaneous invasion by air and land into Iranian territory on 22 September 1980 following a long history of border disputes, and fears of Shia Islam insurgency among Iraq's long-suppressed Shia majority influenced by the Iranian Revolution."

I think the dispute is about invading other countries, not being in a war.

1. Cmon bruh, the Iran Iraq war was forced on the Iranians. Saddam was being pushed, nudged and supported by the Americans and the Gulf Arabs. We cant be serious with this...

2. Of course they support Hezbollah, alot of countries support proxies. Israel funded the Phalange. Americas got one hell of a track record when it comes to this shiit.

3. Any one claiming the IRI has a blank moral slate is a scumbag, its an absolutely detestable regime, but theres plenty of those in the world.

:yeshrug:

"Egging on?" There didn't need to be a whole lot of that, considering that the Islamic Republic of Iran openly called on Iraqi Shiites to overthrow the Ba'athist government and considering that Ba'athist ministers started getting merked in the streets by Shi'ia. Mind you, this was AFTER Saddam gave a speech about peace between the two nations.

Let's not front like war wasn't coming.

The US started openly throwing weapons to Saddam when the possibility of him losing the war became real.

Not sure which is worse.

Disregarding the facts, or discrediting someone for having family members who died in a terrorist attack.
