It's wild. When you search common on Spotify, Incovation is by far the most played song. Which means It must have trended at some point. That's one of the positives about apps like TikTok. It's putting the youngins on shyt they never would have heard otherwise. But yes. Invocation is all time classic. One of the greatest beats of all time..

That’s crazy

I would’ve guessed The Light or maybe a song off of Be would’ve been his most played on Spotify

That was the last Common album I could listen to with no skips.

The Common and No ID chemistry back then was untouchable.

that was like Common at his peak as a lyricist, emcee and artist.

everything came to together perfectly on ODIAMS

long gone was the goofiness of Can I Borrow A Dollar

he still had the witty and clever rhymes of Resurrection, but it was polished with wisdom and thought on ODIAMS

then there's the production. shyt was soulful and jazzy. it was like a perfect blend or marriage with his rhymes

yeah, they made a classic with that one.

Truth.

Resurrection is still my favorite Common album.

But his run from '94-'98, with his unreleased joints, albums and features, was definitely dude in his prime.

hell yeah

i can understand why

definitely 100%

you'll laugh and find this crazy as hell, but other than ODIAMS, i listen to Electric Circus the most.

it's not so much the individual songs on Electric Ciricus, but the production; Dilla laced that shyt and you can literally hear how he graduated from Fantastic Vol. 1 and LWFC and went more further out their with his sound. You also hear it on his Jaylib album Champion Sound w/ Madlib on some songs

but songs like *Star69 :wow:

That's the thing with Common for me. I always preferred his run with No ID over his later sh*t. Soulquarian Common was weird AF, to me. I was a maniac for Dilla beats, but Electric Circus is still a tricky listen for me. Always felt like there was a little too much going on. It was like neo-soul rap in space or some sh*t. HAHA!!

I still throw it on and I'm listening like, "Damn, there's a lot of sh*t happening right now on this track, almost unnecessarily". Ironically, I think Kanye was the closest to getting Common back to normal Common on Be, and not the "trying too hard" Common.

i totally understand that

No ID felt like Common on "common ground" and just beats that worked perfectly with him

in some ways, the beats on LWFC felt like a distract from Common's rhymes, at least these days it does. it didn't when it came out

but i think i like LWFC more for the beats than i do Com's rhymes and that's no knock to Com, he was spitting, but i just feel like that's one of the albums that i like more for the beats than rhymes. i'd be good with an instrumental of that album. aside from Thelonius. gotta hear Com and SV spitting on that! lol

but yeah, Electric Circus was neo soul one to outer space. that was that moment in time where Com and OutKast (3 Stacks were on some, "alright, i know what i can do in Hip Hop but where else can i go with this music

Electric Circus had some interesting moments that weren't quite mastered and again, i like the beats/production more than most of the actual songs but i respect that it seemed like Com was being true to himself and where he was and he just did what he felt at that moment, even tho it didn't "work"

true. that was like a slight return to form for him and he had time on his side because at that point, Ye was in his element and on top and after Com had been on "Get Em' High", it was like shyt had come full circle with now Com wanting to work with Ye since as opposed to No ID

Me too!!! Most people will say their favorite album is LWFC or BE, but for me it's Resurrection. One day is in his top 5 of albums easily. "Hungry" was the song I had on repeat when I first bought this shyt back in 97. I've bought Resurrection 4 times in my life. Twice on cd(one was an anniversary set) and twice on vinyl. My first vinyl was an original pressing and I had to get a turntable fixed from my homeboy who was an electrician back in 2000. I gave that bytch my Resurrection record to test the turntable with once he's finished and he kept my shyt when he dropped the turntable off to me. Common has made classic shyt with Kanye, Pete Rock, Dilla, and NO ID, but for some reason, I just prefer his No Id songs over theirs. No Id's debut was hot too. "State to state" was dope.

Word!!

His No ID sh*t is untouchable, to me. He was definitely hit or miss after that era. And then by the time they finally reunited a million years later, they had kinda lost the chemistry a little. But I'm still stuck on those old albums. That were perfection!!
