'Into The Badlands' Season 2 News: AMC's Martial Arts Series Awaits Renewal

into-the-badlands.jpg

Billed as the first "true" martial arts TV show brought into the American airwaves, AMC's action-adventure series "Into The Badlands" has just finished up the season and fans are already waiting for the announcement if they could once again see the interesting people of the Badlands.

With so many reasons to look into that could validate its renewal, perhaps the most logical would be to first consider the ratings.

Citing the data provided over at International Business Times, in terms of scheduling, "Into The Badlands" was placed between the network's massively-popular post-apocalyptic drama TV series, "The Walking Dead," and its recap series, "Talking Dead." As a result, in the case of the Daniel Wu-led series, it garnered an 8.2 million-strong viewership when it first came out to the small screen, the third best cable debut ever. Succeeding episodes though saw the decline in numbers with Episode 4 to be the lowest at 2.4 million viewer count. Despite that, it is still the third highest rated cable series shown on Sundays.

For the cast members themselves, the show still has a lot of story to tell. In his conversation with the media outlet, Aramis Knight (who plays M.K. in the series), revealed that series creators Al Gough, Miles Millar, as well as Wu had recently met up in L.A.

Wu, who both served as the lead star and executive producer of the show, actually went over to Knight's house to discuss "the story arc and where things would go," the actor went on to reveal.

"They set a 90% location if we were to come back, which would be New Zealand. It's all up in the air right now, though," Knight told IBT.

For those who missed it, "Into the Badlands" is a genre-bending martial arts drama loosely based on a Chinese tale titled "Journey to the West." The setting takes place in an America that has been rid of guns. Much of the land is controlled by a few feudal lords where Wu's character, Sunny, has served. The latter met a young boy, M.K., and together they embarked on a journey to find what's beyond the Badlands.

Stay tuned for more updates.

No Whammies!!
I did a quick search to see if I could find anything on Season 2, and I found this:
Into the Badlands: Season Two Plans Teased by Co-Creator - canceled TV shows - TV Series Finale

Al Gough: […] In season two, you’ll meet more Barons. We’ll explore the abbots. We’ll explore other areas of the Badlands. Even though Sunny and M.K. look like they’re being taken far away, Sunny’s goal is going to be to get back to Veil and find M.K. Ultimately, it becomes what the series is called, Into the Badlands. Then, when you go into the Badlands, when you’re not a regent, when you don’t have Clippers, even though you’re Sunny and you clearly have proven time and time again you can take out a lot of people, there’s a lot of threats that will be coming at you. Everything you’ve done in your life, all of those tattoos on your back have consequences attached to them. You’ll definitely see more of the Badlands in season two, and really start to see the journey, the literal journey of these characters

Slightly off topic, but I watched the "Marco Polo:One Hundred Eyes" special on Netflix yesterday. It reminded me that I prefer the more "realistic" fight scenes in that show. Anyone that likes Into the Badlands might want to check that out. Its a prequel episode that doesn't really contain any spoilers if you watch it without watching the first season.

A Mississippi Cotton Field
finished up today. Series was great.

I'm guessing it's all lousiana, with the folks not realizing there's people in other places beyond the badlands.

That City of the Dead is one of those big cemetaries with the tombs above ground

all those antibellum houses and swamp looking land

The River King controls The Mississippi River, ferrying goods to and from up north

those monks crossing the desert are headed west over Texas.

I didn't even think about it, but the "River" has to be the Mississippi River. The Widow's oil refinery must be near the Gulf of Mexico.

From Comicbook.com

Into The Badlands Averages 5.3 Million Viewers In First Season

AMC is reporting that its freshman martial arts drama Into the Badlands averaged 5.3 million viewers, 3.2 million adults 18-49 and 3.3 million adults 25-54 in live+3 ratings

The first season finale was viewed by 3.6 million viewers, 2 million adults 18-49 and 2.2 million adults 25-54 in live+3, the highest time-shifting percentage gains of the season.

Into the Badlands was another popular premiere for AMC, ranking as the third highest-rated freshmen season of any series in cable history among adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 in live+3 viewing (AMC’s own Fear the Walking Dead and Better Call Saul are the first and second highest, respectively).

Into the Badlands was built to be entertaining, action-packed television, and this team delivered. We’re very appreciative of the many millions of fans who have joined us in the Badlands each week,” said Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios, in a press release. “Thanks to our terrific executive producers – showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar, Stacey Sher, Michael Shamberg, David Dobkin, Stephen Fung and Daniel Wu, the stunt teams led by Stephen and Master Dee Dee for bringing the fight sequences to new heights, and, of course, the entire cast and crew who all worked so hard to bring this layered show to life.”

AMC hasn’t officially renewed Into the Badlands for a second season yet, but showrunners Gough and Millar seemed confident when we spoke to them following the finale. Considering the strong ratings, AMC has every reason to give the series a sophomore season.
