Former WBA junior featherweight titleholder Rico Ramos takes on Claudio Marrero Saturday at the Pearl at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
Ramos (24-4, 12 KOs), a 28-year-old boxer from Carson, California, has lost three of his last seven bouts since losing his title to Guillermo Rigondeaux in January 2012, but it should be noted that his losses are to quality opponents.
Marrero (18-1, 13 KOs), a 26-year-old southpaw from the Dominican Republic has won four in a row since suffering his only loss, a 12-round decision to Jesus Cuellar (who also holds a decision victory over Ramos).
Ramos-Marrero is the co-feature to the 12-round cruiserweight fight between Beibut Shumenov (15-2, 10 KOs) and B.J. Flores (31-1-1, 20 KOs). Both fights will be televised on NBC Sports Net, beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT with a 10-round contest between undefeated cruiserweights Jordan Shimmell (19-0, 16 KOs) and Isiah Thomas (14-0, 6 KOs) kicking off the broadcast.
