Lab Zero Games, creators of the critcally-acclaimed Skullgirls, is thrilled to announce their next project, Indivisible!

Indivisible is a new action/RPG IP, starring Ajna (AHZH-na), a girl who sets out on a globe-spanning journey to discover the truth behind her mysterious powers. On her quest she’ll be joined by a variety of unique heroes and gain new abilities to traverse the environments and defeat the enemies they’ll encounter along the way.

Indivisible is inspired by classics like Valkyrie Profile and Super Metroid, but with the unique characters and gameplay depth Lab Zero is known for. In addition to a fresh spin on action/RPG gameplay, Indivisible features a deep storyline inspired by southeast Asian and other world mythologies, Lab Zero’s trademark feature-quality 2D hand-drawn animation, and a lush soundtrack from legendary Secret of Mana composer Hiroki Kikuta.

Lab Zero and 505 Games Bring You Indivisible | 505 Games

Since we announced Indivisible at Anime Expo earlier this month, Lab Zero has been anxiously awaiting to reveal our publishing partner, 505 Games. They’ve been fantastic to work with so far, and joining their line-up of great games like ABZÛ and ADR1FT is pretty exciting, too!

While our arrangement may bear some passing similarity to recent crowdfunding / publisher tie-ups, I believe the progressive relationship between Lab Zero and 505 Games is the next evolution in crowdfunding partnerships.

So let’s dive into the details a bit.

Currently, Lab Zero is developing a playable prototype for Indivisible, funded by 505 Games. Once that prototype is complete, we’ll release that to the public and launch a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo in September to fund the full game. If we meet or exceed our goal, 505 will contribute the remaining development budget, and full production will begin in earnest.

So, up until the initial goal, 505 Games will effectively be matching your contributions. And the more money the Indiegogo campaign raises, the better the game gets, and the better the deal is for Lab Zero.

To be clear, this isn’t a campaign to “gauge interest” – Indivisible represents a more equitable funding split, where your support directly influences not only the game, but also the post-release benefits Lab Zero receives. Indivisible will not happen if we don’t hit our goal. But should the campaign succeed, Lab Zero will have a better outcome than we would’ve gotten through a more traditional publishing deal – that’s the risk we took, and we feel it’s a worthwhile tradeoff.

Lab Zero has learned a lot from our previous Indiegogo campaign, and so we expect that to go more smoothly this time around, especially when it comes to manufacturing and shipping physical rewards. And, perhaps most importantly, thanks to 505’s involvement we’ll be able to offer a physical release of Indivisible on the platform of your choice.

In addition to physical versions of the game, we’re cooking up some great physical rewards we’re pretty happy with. For example…

So, yeah – we’re excited.

Be sure to check out the teaser site 505 has built – it’ll be getting a developer blog soon enough, and we’ll start sharing more of our progress leading up to the launch of the campaign – prototype footage, character reveals, and more!

And be sure to sign up for the mailing list to receive updates, and follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr!

Ah, so this is what they spent their kickstarter Skullgirls "Skins/Dlc" money on.

I'd like to hear your reasoning on this.

Crowdfunded games are a joke unless the game has it's framework already developed.
It's likely that they'll be using the same engine used for Skullgirls' development.

Indivisible Playable Prototype Progress Update

The Indivisible playable prototype is nearly complete! We’re putting the finishing touches on it now, putting it through its paces with friends and polishing it up as best we can before we give it to you.

In case you forgot, the Indivisible playable prototype will be distributed completely free to everyone, whether they back the Indiegogo campaign or not. Backers of our Skullgirls Indiegogo campaign will get it a few days early, and it’ll be made available to the wider public when the campaign for Indivisible launches.

Environment
Until now, most of what we’ve shown of the game’s environments have been purely collision or “VR missions” style. We’ve been hard at work modeling, texturing and lighting the environment and are ready to show you a little more!

We’re still making adjustments to the lighting and textures, so expect the final result to look even better!
Battle
Since we last showed you how Indivisible’s battles work, we’ve made a number of additions to it. All of these new mechanics center around the addition of the Iddhi Meter, which powers magic, super attacks and blocking.

You build Iddhi by attacking, and the higher your combos, the faster your Iddhi will build.

Once you’ve built up a bar of Iddhi, you can use a character’s magic or super attack by holding L1 and pressing their attack button.

All of Ajna’s Incarnations can channel Iddhi to perform powerful attacks or feats of magic. For example, in the prototype Razmi’s Iddhi magic is a powerful healing spell, which restores a significant amount of the party’s health.

While an enemy is attacking, you can also hold a character’s button to block. Blocking drains Iddhi, but the damage reduction from a successful block is significant.

Iddhi is accumulated on a per-battle basis, but don’t worry – any you have left at the end of a battle will be converted into health automatically!
