As a people, we need to not only be proud of who we are but also seek to perform actions worthy of that pride. In this way, we will not be taken in by backhanded compliments and praise about our character and propensity to be altruistic. We are a great people, ALL OF US on the continent and diaspora, who have done great feats in the Past, Present, and will continue to in the Future.
Our present circumstances, no matter what they are, can not be allowed to limit our push towards greatness. In turn, we must not allow any perceived detrimental circumstance about our condition in the Present to make us mules for the use of other groups of people who only want to use us for their purposes. Instead, we must use our energy and generosity for our people first and foremost.
We can start small with our families and then radiate out into our communities and eventually the entire Black world. Charity starts in the home, and strong families should be the foundation that we use in our push toward greatness. It starts with the family though, because that is where the culture for success can be most effectively created and nurtured.
Ok, off my soapbox.
