Roland Emmerich is trash though, ID4 was only successful at it's time because it was a spectacle, the special effects look like shyt now and the movie can't stand on it's own merit, its laughable at how bad it is.

Once again, that wasn't the intentions, but WIll made the movie bigger than what it was going to be, that's why be became a Star, he proved his drawing power, take Will Smith out the movie its not as big or will be memorable

back then movies where in the theater longer and longer, word of mouth was key if Will Smith wasn't in the movie it wouldn't have had the lasting power, this is a fact, which is why he got nothing but big movies afterwards because it was proven to be true
