Not an oldhead but it looks to me that

"Can't touch this" was just catchy and a monster hit, sampling another monster hit

His music was easy for white people to digest .
And then he fukked up his money by trying to go down the Gangsta Rap route. He dropped the ‘MC’ and became just ‘Hammer.’

The Pumps And. Bumps video effectively killed his career. :mjlol:

But boy could he dance. The only one close to James Brown and Michael Jackson. Some might even argue on the same level as them.

The video was awful, but that song is actually pretty damn good.

This is a really a discussion about MC Hammer and Bobby Brown

Hammer because the other three didn't go full pop....Hammer took what Bobby Brown did in 89 with the dancing and the pants and took it to whole another level and then with the sampling of already huge pop or crossover hits was a huge star and had a business mindset that screamed I WANT TO CROSS OVER.

The other three crossed over naturally without forcing the issue, we forget how HUGE a deal it was for Bobby to be on MTV with my Prerogative like that and how he sold out RFK and Giants stafium and Wembley arena otu of nowhere like he got hot so fast it was crazy but he didn't have a crossover mindset like that

Snoop and Pac success came thru after what these guys did before them as well as RUN DMC

And people make jokes about MC Hammer going broke. He tried to employ ALL his people. You hear people like Diddy, Birdmam etc. Screwing their artists out of contracts, Hammer tried to take as many people out of the hood and have them eat.

That’s why I was never cool with people making him the butt of their jokes for going broke when plenty of artists before him went broke too.

No rapper was doing numbers like him at the time.
