Simpsons >>> South park>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Family Guy

They are/were all great in their prime tho, I'd probably put American Dad on a par with FG

I'm just going to separate my posts because I have a lot to say about both shows.

The Simpsons in its prime is undoubtedly one of the best sitcoms ever made, and/or one of the best television shows ever made. It had everything. Great comedy, interesting characters, relatable stories, clever parodies and pop culture references, and classic quotes. It was consistently great for almost a decade. Most shows fall off after three or four seasons. There are people who argue that the show was in its prime all the way up to season ten. That's ridiculous. :damn:

And that's because of all the work they put in. If you listen to the commentaries and interviews from all the people who wrote and produced those classics, you find out all the time they spent rewriting jokes, perfecting stories, and making sure every episode was up to standards. They had new showrunners every two years to keep things fresh. Just when you think the show had nothing left to say and was on its way down, they hit you with a new style and a new way of telling stories for at least two years. You couldn't fukk with that show for a long time. :wow:

But it fell off hard. Really hard. Everything has to end at some point, but once the classic years were over, the show went to hell. It became the opposite of it used to be. Standards went down, it kept coasting on its success and it lost everything that made it so special. It went from being one of the best shows on television to just being another show on television. It can't top itself anymore, it doesn't grow, it will never be consistent again, and it should have ended years ago.

Every now and then, they can pull off a dope episode. But back in the day, they were pulling off dope episodes every week. It wasn't fair. :mjcry:

Family Guy is one of my all-time favorite shows. I've been a fan since I was a kid.

The show used to be one of the funniest shows on television. It could never be prime Simpsons, but it had a chance to be one of the best sitcoms to ever get put on a TV screen. The first couple of seasons were great, in my opinion. They deserve a lot more credit. It was like a meaner, more aggressive Simpsons but you could still relate to the characters and you were guaranteed to laugh several times an episode. The cutaways were a lot better back then because it wasn't just random bullshyt for the sake of it. They were more like flashbacks that had a point to being there, and they didn't take away from the stories being told. There was a real balance between characters and comedy. :banderas:

It came back from cancellation strong, but because a lot of the writers moved on to other shows (two of the original writers ended up being showrunners for American Dad, which is why that show feels more like a continuation of the old Family Guy), they were replaced with people who only cared about being funny. That's not a problem if you could make it work, and they did for a long time, but because the show never put in the work to make you care about the characters or the stories, all they had to fall back on were jokes and random gags. Nowadays, they don't have that at all because most of the jokes are just random gags and shock jokes meant to be disturbing. But it's not shocking anymore when they make those jokes all the time, so it's just disturbing. Not to mention jokes that go on way too long, jokes that you could put into any episode, and lazy stereotype jokes that aren't unique or clever at all. :beli:

A lot of the time, I don't even understand why I still watch this show. And the worst part is, the show will sometimes tell you that what it just did was stupid and didn't make any sense, or let you know that it sucks, but it doesn't do anything to get better. They haven't had standards in a long time. :mjcry:

It doesn't make any sense for me to put classic Family Guy over classic Simpsons when it still has to compete with classic American Dad. I'm glad @Ziggiy mentioned it because that show is really underrated and it kept getting better while Family Guy was getting worse. :manny:

American Dad has low key been a better show than Family Guy for a while now, they're able to create classic episodes without using cutaway gags and the supporting cast is better.
