Well the culture glorified crack back then. This is why black males for a long time were the most likely to SELL drugs yet the least likely to USE drugs. A lot of blacks had that one uncle that they saw strung out on crack and thought "damn. that won't be me."
Slowly blacks are being programmed to get back into crack. In the 1990s it started with weed. In the 2000's it became different types of weed, kush and lean. In the 2010s it is now "molly". In the 2020s watch people make songs talking about "smoked some crack. I'm sweatin." or "Hey hey hey hey. Smoke crack everyday." Call me crazy but I know what's coming.
Cause nikkas weren't educated about it like today. Cats smoked it and thought it gave them superpowers. Not eating and drinking for days on end really made cats look sooner than expected. That era represented the worst of black folk.
i think being in chains for 400 years was a little worse.
rich and famous people were freebasing powder cocaine (the more expensive more time-consuming more dangerous form of crack cocaine) since the early 70's including many of rap's biggest stars and also huge stars in the white rock n' roll community.
the thing about crack is that at first, it wasnt considered taboo ( people didnt understand the magnitude a little rock could do). My uncle use to get down with it back in the day and he basically was like " yeah, coke was a luxury whereas crack wasnt." It was all for fun. Not everyone got "hooked" however the ones who did went overboard.
To be frank, I seen more heroin addicts more messed up then crack heads
Just a different era
