Season 5 was just the worst thing ever for a top tier show.
As much as I liked Doakes and the actor who played him, the character couldn't be a longterm nemesis for Dexter because he was too smart of a detective to never figure out what Dexter was up to. They couldn't drag it out for 5 seasons having Doakes look like a bumblefukk who was constantly being outsmarted by Dexter. They could have maybe done what the book did and had Doakes become incapacitated so that his vendetta/investigation into Dexter would have become more difficult for him to pull off.
I think the thing that makes me miss Doakes so much though i that his de facto replacement, Quinn, is a very shytty character.

The Thanksgiving episode might be my favorite TV episode of all time.

they fukked up by introducing Doakes as already being suspicious of Dexter in the very first episode
they couldn't build that up as the seasons went on
