In retrospect, the second season of Dexter was a mistake

I think most can agree that the second season of Dexter was easily the best of the series...but I think this was a classic case of peaking too soon. Tho its still a great show, the quality has been going downhill since that great season. They should've saved that storyline for a later season imo. This is what I would've done:

Season 1 - Same as it was.

Season 2 - Use the Miguel storyline. Have Doakes harass Dex throughout the season.

Season 3 - Make up a new story. Doakes is still around but have him back off of Dex for a while until he finds some new evidence in the end...setting up the next season.

Season 4 - Use most of the original season 2 storyline.

Season 5 - Use the Trinity storyline.

The following seasons would build off of the storyline of him nearly getting caught.


I still love the show, but I feel this would've been a much better way to improve and prolong the series.

I agree somewhat but it was kinda cool Dexter's writers had the balls to kill or a main charatcher like Doakes and his brother

Yup, the writers protect Dexter too much. He should be in hiding or on the run by now.

Its not even really about Doakes, but more about them doing the whole 'Dexter about to get caught' thing way too soon in retrospect...should have saved that for a later season.

As for Doakes, they could've easily stretched out his character by giving him his own side stories and keeping him off Dex's ass for atleast one season.
