As she hints at in her IG post's description, I'm under the impression there are microplastics in everything including our brains.

I wouldn't freak out about it. It's unavoidable and people have been good so far :manny:
I wouldn’t say good since microplastics in the heart have shown to cause complications. It’s definitely worth it to cut your family my and your exposure.

But they get there notably through regular food consumption, don't they? How would you even reduce exposure if they're present in every food item and the air itself?

If it does has legitimate adverse effects on health, I'd imagine the only way out of it would be political, but as individuals, I struggle to see what we could do that'd have a real impact

Main harbingers like plastics bottles, foods wrapped in plastic, not microwaving food in plastic containers, not using non-stick pans, making sure your water source tests and mitigates BPA-just to name a few things.

Gonna keep enjoying my microplastics. Nice cup of tea at the end of the day keeps me from assaulting folks

Considering that cancer rates are going up dramatically, life expectancies are declining, mental illness is increasing, and school performance is declining, I wouldn't say "people have been good so far" is an accurate take.

Not to say microplastics have caused all those things, but there's no evidence to suggest "people are just fine so it must not have an impact."

Well that's the thing, in addition to the fact that no solid causal link has been established between microplastic exposure and the ills you brought up (as far as I know), they don't even seem to correlate.

For example, it's only in 2019 that life expectancy in Europe stopped progressing. We've been hooked on plastic for much longer than that.

That's part of why I think it's reasonable to say people have been good so far. That doesn't mean I believe it probably has no impact, but no impact worth panicking over, especially for something unavoidable? Pretty much.

Also, it seems to me we have much better candidates to explain current ills. Again, not saying microplastics don't play a minor or almost insignificant role.
