Prodigy on Life Nikka Rap and Jay Z on Success are the only times someone out rapped Nas on a record IMO

Oh ok. Just making sure. I feel like no one bodied anyone. If u value what the artist is saying more u gonna prefer Nas’ verse. If u value flow more u gonna prefer AZ’s verse. When I was young I think I preferred AZ’s verse more. As I got older tho Nas’ verse was the clear standout to me. Plus he had the most quoted lyrics on the song outside of the book.

I’m in agreement with that. Like I said I understand both sides and I do value lyrics but that’s not the end all be all criteria that makes a song good we’re discussing music here good music provokes emotions and AZ’s mic presence, flow, and delivery is far superior than nas’ verse. What nas is saying on a technical level is better but his delivery is not good. I see what he was trying to do and have his own unique style on the song but it didn’t fit that song better than AZ. Nas sounded like they woke him up with a broomstick in the middle of the night to record the verse and he did it.

Now this is what I disagree with. His delivery was definitely great. U may not like it better than what AZ was doing but to say it wasn’t good is wildin. There’s nothing on Illmatic rap wise that was “not good”. Absolutely nothing. And I grew to appreciate Nas’s laid back flow on it more.

Disagree on this part, but I understand

I think its more of a popular misnomer. Its the thing to say. "Rakim changed everyone's rap style". But its more of G Rap

Like when Hip Hop media said Nas was the "2nd coming of Rakim". But if you listen to Nas' songs before Illmatic, he sounds exactly like G Rap

Even Russell Simmons said he didn't want to sign Nas at first because he sounded too much like G Rap, and that style doesn't sell records
