I'm puerto rican & Dominican.

I say nikka; and I don't give a fukk what you say :yeshrug:

I'm trying not to use it because of my newly found consciousness.

Growing up in Brooklyn I used it to try and be affable with my peers.

Everybody else used it. If a word is used so often in your environment, you will use it too :manny:

I respect your answer. I grew up in a majority hispanic neighborhood (mostly PRican) and adapted some of their habits like carrying and using knives/razors :guilty:. The term "spic" comes to mind as a derogatory term used to call latinos but the difference with black folks is that Latinos dont call each other spics :lupe: So if we call each other nikkas other cultures feel its ok to call us nikkas too.

I must say the word is hurtful when being by those outside of the scope of the word if that makes sense. So when I see a straight hair pointy nose light skin say nikka I get uncomfortable and I hold them accountable for using the word. Most acknowledge my feelings others I have to walk away if you know what I mean

It's not that black people use it among themselves, they call others the word too...the thread title is an example. I'm not black either and I grew up using the word and being called it as well. I've curbed my use of the word significantly since my 20's but it still slips out every now and then during casual conversation with friends...yes, black friends. I would never argue that I have the right to use it though...it's just an unfortunate reality that it has been a part of my vocabulary for so long.

I grew up in a black neighborhood. There was a plethora of different cultures like Trinidadian, Haitian, Jamaican, etc. I felt out of place too, but eventually I just assimilated.

I see myself as a Latino, a black individual, & an American.

I know Hispanics can be very hypocritical & racist towards black people. & The countries do try to mimick and please their oppressors; it isn't something I respect. My family is dark skinned, & my neighborhood was black.

Because of this, among other things, I do identify with your culture more.

Idunno man. Sometimes I feel like I'm going through an identity crisis

I feel what the OP is saying. Growing up in Brooklyn & East Harlem I've heard it used as well & cringed. My issue with it is a good portion of Latinos hide behind being Latino not claiming their Blackness yet want to use that word & be down.

Has anyone seen this:

I dont even like Dominicans and PR's using the word and compared to other Hispanics they have the most African admixture.

I hate hearing these fakkits use the n-word on the basketball court, they use it like it aint nothing....all in my barbershop they using it so much they even incorporate the n-word into the spanglish they speaking

Exactly...I got love for my Dominican and PR homies. But stop saying the word...Unless you identify as black and the black struggle...

I guess my only problem is white people and black people using it. The rest of these muhfukkas weren't around back then to even matter.
