I think people are getting the misconception that when me and others say hits we are talking about pop hits which is false. Tbh Jay doesn’t even have that many pop hits and it’s not like the ones he has are corny. During Jays prime he never was even the most popular rapper out. He was never as big as DMX, Ja, Em or Nelly. He might not even been as big as Luda. But him and the Roc ran the streets. In the black clubs you heard more Jay than Nas. In a black neighborhood you heard more cars playing Jay than Nas. If you were at a black party or cookout or block party you heard more Jay than Nas. That shyt means something. Jay has more fans than Nas. All these reasons are why I think he would beat Nas even tho I think Nas is the better rapper but not by much
Jay was never bigger than Mic Geronimo if we’re being honest :troll:
Jay was definitely bigger than Luda at his peak. Vol 2 went 5x plat :wow:

It actually was tho believe it or not. Those were my prime club years. A fight was guaranteed to break out every time they played it
:heh:
I’m not saying it didn’t get played, but it wasn’t a “club” record.

It’s about songs that resonated with the “culture” which Jay has way more of.
Which “culture” though?
Verbal Intercourse over What we Do culture?
Or What we Do over Verbal Intercourse culture?

What We Do is much more of an anthem than Verbal Intercourse.

If we talking about records yeah it’s going to win if we talking about better lyrical performance then Nas got that but Hov verse is no slouch.
Verbal Intercourse is a better record in very way imaginable. And What We Do is classic in and of itself.

Not necessarily. Both Jay and Nas have 20 songs that they could easily pull up that aren't necessarily B sides especially if they include features. I would imagine both Nas and Jay Z would have songs that would mirror what often appears on a set list at their shows.
I highly doubt that a 20 song list of just a-side singles would come close to representing the best if Jay or Nas. But I’d be interested to see that list.

It's a cool song, but nobody would miss that song if it wasn't played.

Of course not lol Nas has too many joints. But it’s gotta way bettter chance of winning in a battle than 80% of the "headphone" Nas hits being posted in here .

Nas killed it :wow: and that song was pushed decently during that era.

Best is subjective. Versuz battles are basically artists playing quintessential songs in regard to their careers. Songs that hold significance to them, their fans, and the culture. That is why many of the songs are A sides and some are B sides. With Nas and Jay, I'm sure it'll be a bit of both. "One Mic" is an A side that many feel is kne of, if not Nas's best songs. "If I Ruled The World" is another. A lot of people became fans because of those songs and those songs moved culture.

Same goes for Jay Z, "Hard Knock Life" shifted things for Jay. It has cultural impact and made fans of people who slept on Jay Z before.

Idk breh. Every way imaginable is a stretch. Both songs are for different moods. Both have classic verses. While Verbal Intercourse is laid back and subdued What We Do is full of energy

I’m not saying don’t play any singles, I’m saying just playing 20 singles wouldn’t display the best either has to offer. Which of course is subjective.

Why is this thread going on for so long?:pachaha:

Like we get it, in a hits battle, Jay got more and he would win off that. But if you look at Versuz its not just a hit battle but just dope record battle and guys use their catalogue, featues, unreleased joints whatever and you've had guys on there that wouldnt think had any mainstream joints or hits in decades. We've seen Jay vs Nas mixes for years. I seen one podcast that managed to put 50 Nas records and 50 Jay records all the way up to 2019. So Its not this weird wash. Im actually what the reactions would be if someone suggested someone other than Nas but less big like Ghost, Common, Redman and if they would still make it about hits.

These battles arent even like competition no more, just dudes celebrating each other anyway. it would be dope to see them play their joints together.

Pepole using objective stances in here to say which records are better. Verbal Intercourse and What We Do are both dope
