Finally watched and loved it. Did a great job of balancing his musical talent with his fukkery. Too many documentaries sway too far in one direction while ignoring the other. Dude was complicated as fukk. Even the situation with the kids showed he wanted to be a stand up dude and take care of his kids but then was too caught up in partying to be a proper father with them.
Loved them having the wife and the band all saying how he got caught up in the Rick James image and how he eventually lost himself in that image.
I didn't know what to make of the last wife. She talked about Rick trying to get clean but was she the one driving him back to the drugs or was she fighting to keep him clean. Also wild to me that they got back together after they both did their jail stints.
Loved seeing how he tried all different styles of music before landing on something that hit. Crazy that so much of his career was wasted trying to get off of Motown.
