I seen it before when I was younger I think I enjoyed more back then than I did now Val was still shaggy tho

Def not the best western tho
Id reccomend the searchers but i know this place hates john wayne. Especially when he plays a racist at that but id say its prolly my fav. Just really good cinematography, acting, scenery, etc

No, Unforgiven is the best modern western film

Tombstone is loosely based on historical events that took place in the old west, outside of that it's not a true western.

Western Movies come from the forumla of Japanese Samurai Movies, filmmakers have forgotten how to make western movies

and no, just because the movie is set in the old west doesn't make it a western.

Can you elaborate further? Not saying you're wrong at all I just know nothing about westerns

Its kind like how Star Wars is not a science fiction film even though it has spaceship, lasers, and technology. It is a fantasy film.

The Matrix has wired-martial arts and philosophical undertones but its not a kung fu movie

Tombstone is an action/drama loosely based on wyatt earp who lived during those time periods of the old west

the setting, gunfights, all those are apart of westerns, but those are just decorations westerners are character driven, focusing more on the main character struggling with his principles morality and honor as they clash with society much like the samurai films they are derived from

that's why the main character is usually stoic with a dark past seeking a new life/path are usually dangerous but shy away from what they are capable of doing etc and they always come into conflict with the world around which is transitioning into a different era where their ideals and way of life are becoming a thing of the past.

Once upon a time in the west and the dollar trilogy, nothing else comes close. Matter of fact these are one of the best movies ever made period in every genre

Add High Plains Drifter and Magnifcent Seven to that list...you'd have my 10 favorites.

No mention of Open Range?
