By getting in shape, you will start to have more confidence in how you look. That confidence will show because you will be smiling more, you will carry yourself in a more confident manner, even your posture will improve as you strengthen your body.
There are health benefits as well if course, you will not have as many random aches and pains and you will be more resistant to injuries.
It will be a learning process, make sure not to overdo it. A tiny bit of soreness the next day is normal, but you shouldn't be in any agony or excruciating pain the next day.
My advice on any weight exercise you do, is to do 3 sets of 8-12 reps. Rest for 10-15 seconds between sets. The last rep of each set should feel like you can't do another rep, like you're at your limit. It will take trial and error to find how much weight to use on each exercise. Check out YouTube to find a workout that works best for you. I chose to do Push/Pull, which is doing pushing exercises one day, then pulling exercises the next day, then taking a rest day to ride my bike, play basketball, do indoor rock climbing or whatever is a fun workout activity.
If you had no gym experience, like me, I suggest Planet Fitness. Only 10 dollars a month, or 20 if you want extra benefits, and you can still get swole. Ignore any bad things people say about Planet Fitness, I'm in the best shape I've ever been in, to the point where I get compliments from random people about my body and they ask me what I do to get in shape.
