Im taking an Econ-101 class and Im stuck.. First off, Im horrible at math. Right now Im in a 0-94 type of math class trying to get caught up to where I should be, but then in this econ class this bytch has us calculating slopes and shyt..

I know the formula is y2-y1/x2-x1

what I dont understand is how I know which number is y1 & y2 and then x1 & x2

I understand that y is vertical and x is horizontal, but how do I know which is 1 and 2... :what:

here's the first sheet she gave us and I just copied what someone put on the board

You can't be fukking serious..... You don't have to use that formula. You can also use the point-slope method. Y=Mx+B

Y_1 and Y_2 can be any point in that sequence of numbers... oh man..

wow... and in another thread people were talking about "everyone can be a high level STEM"? Look at the OP's Questions. Think about what he is asking us. Think about the basic level of mathematical understanding that he lacks, and he is TAKING A COLLEGE LEVEL ECONOMICS COURSE!

OP, I don't mean to make an example of you, but we really need to think about this for a while.

This type of question is not uncommon. It's not high school. I graduated high school with a 2.1GPA. Not everyone is built for mathematics and science. I am not trying to insult OP. How can someone expect to go through college and not understand basic algebra.

I struggle with math and have ADD..It is what it is, which is why I stated Im in a low level mathematics course..

you couldve just answered the question and kept the shyt talking to yourself..

yeah its something I struggle at, which is why Im attempting to improve myself?

It doesn't matter which one is y1 or y2 etc. It will come out to the same slope in either case. I give you props for actually asking for help but they don't have tutoring at your school?

You struggle with math. You're not alone. I am not trying to be condescending or insulting.

We just have big thread arguing about college education. Do you think you can be engineer? Can you handle it? Serious question.

Who said anything about being an engineer...

Could I do it? Who knows, Ive seen and heard of people with less in life accomplish some incredible things. :yeshrug:

Im not going to blame everything on having ADD, but I'd be foolish to say it doesn't affect me at all...

On the subject if I could do it and handle being an engineer I look at it like this. If math isnt a strength it would be like people forcing Vick to be Brady or Manning...

you want to be an engineer and econ 101 is hard?

Math is just process and repetition and perfection.Anybody can be competent at it if given the proper time each week to study and practice problems and equations. It can be fun once you start breezing through simple problems.

But thats why i'm an accounting major now when i was an econ major in my first go round at college. Too many years of not doing math plus the accounting and finance field have more useful applications to the real world job market than econ does and the math is simpler.

Condascending or not Gundam has a point you have to sit and look in the mirror and evaluate where you are vs where you want to be and what you have to do to get there. In math if you don't have the basics make sure you go back and solidify it.

No, I dont want to be an engineer..

I was taking criminal justice classes, but did not like them except for a select few. Marketing interest me so I figured I take a class like that and a few other business classes
