East Coast bias in The Source for BOTH 'Chronic' albums :snoop:

On another note, only people who said '2001' was better were not around when 'The Chronic' dropped.

:old: facts (Getting in there before you mofo's do)

Facts.

shyt progresses in a linear fashion. 2001 was Dre trying to recreate the feeling of the OG Chronic and he succeeded like a muthafukka. With that being said, there would be no 2001 without the original. For that alone it deserves more respect.

2001 was my era, anyone growing up at the time knew the lyrics to all the songs, so for that reason id say 2001, and sonically the way it sounded has never been duplicated.

but like dude said, you cant lose with either one

If u really think about it The Source and Vibe to an extent kinda planted the seeds for NYs hip hop downfall with their bias and focus on lyrics and boom bap rap

The Source shytted on a lot of East Coast rap too though. That's why they had to go back and correct the mics years later. They knew they fukked up. I remember Smiff N Wessun's Dah Shining getting something crazy like 3.5 mics initially.

Edit: It was 3 mics

I'd say that the OG is slightly better but I find it hilarious when dudes on here (and elsewhere) think that it's blasphemous to say otherwise. They're 2 undoubted classics from 2 different eras.

:martin: You only posted the singles off The Chronic. Have you ever listened to the album?

Lil Ghetto Boy
Stranded On Death Row
High Powered
bytches Ain't shyt
Lyrical Gangbang

And of course the mixing was better on 2001. The albums were made 10 years apart.

My whole point... out of 16 tracks you might only hear 2-3 being played on the radio today compared to 4-5 singles out of the 23 tracks on 2001.

Besides the 3 tracks i listed, how many songs from the Chronic can you throw on in the middle of a party or a radio mix and still get listeners hype?

Those tracks you listed can NEVER amount to the effect that Still DRE, Next Episode, & Forgot about Dre have on people once they begin playing, once you hear those song intros you KNOW not to change the radio station

Chronic will always be regarded as a great classic album, but I'm sure the greater majority will agree that 2001 aged better than Chronic.
