Pharoah Interview Conducted June 20, 2003.
How did you hook up with K-Rino & The S.P.C.?
Through the unstoppable Flow-N-Rhyma in the Houston rap game and founda of the S.P.C. K-Rino.
How did you hook up with the Killa Klan?
I am the founda known az tha lord of the Killa Klan that started the organization and the name says it all.
Have you always wanted to be a rap artist?
Yeah I always wanted to get my point across in a poetic form.
Who did you come up listening to?
My first rap tape that a nikka owned was the fat boys and I played that bytch til it popped. Ha Ha! But I waz already up on otha artists that my olda homeboys put me on like Run DMC, Whodini, Kurtis Blow, and all tha oldschool artists that practiced and mastered freedom of speech ova beats.
Who are your favorite artists?
All the artists that keep it on the street level but at the same time wake me up on how the devilz tried to totally erase my people history and feed us a bunch of bullshyt.
How did you get put down in the infamous Street Military?
Me, Flea, and Icey started the group in 1991. Then we drafted Nutt aka ButtaBoy and a few months later we drafted K.B.
What is your favorite moment in the rap game?
Receivin positive comments from a new project or after a powerful performance.
If you could pick five Houston Mc's to put on one track with you, who would it be?
Two aggravated and explosive members from the Killa Klan and Burton Boyz representaz like Too and Skibo, two underground pioneers from the SPC like K-Rino and AC Chill, and one original Screwed Up Clicksta like my lil grindin ass homegirl Sherroah cause we all got deep southpark rootz.
Any battle rap stories for the fans?
Yeah I have many battle rap stories and I'm still a battle rapper to this day.
Who do you think is the best underground MC in H-Town?
I don't know who the best is but I am willing to compete for that title with a fair judgement win, loss, or draw.
What are your top 5 SPC/Killa Klan releases?
Z-Ro - Look What You Did To Me, K-Rino - Stories From The Black Book, K.B. & LiL Flea - Blood and Tears, Icey Hott - Mind Over Matter, and my Seventh Unreleased album I just completed entitled "Still Redy In Tha Beast Belly."
What was your favorite Street Military release?
Even though I'm only on four tracks due to confinement I gotta ride with one of the coldest motherfukkin albums I eva heard "Steel Gangstaz"
What can you tell us about the fallen soldiers in H-Town, Big Mello, DJ Screw, Nut, Fat Pat? Do you know any of them, any stories you can share?
These brothas all had talent and made a whole lot of noize in Houston before they departed to their final restin place. It ain't no secret that me and Nut was real close. Buttaboy use to have a nikka laughin all day but when it was time to tear a son-of-a-bytch head off he didnt play no games. Alot of people didn't know it but he had plenty of book smarts and some college hours here on Earth. And thats what I have to share about my homie.
Did Screw ever make you any personals?
Naw Screw never made me any personals cause I never placed my order but I did get to flow on one of his personals "So Much Pain" back in 1996.
Did you jam Screw?
I use to jam the shyt outta Grey and Clear Screws and yea I was a very supportive fan of his material. On that note, I would say that Screw was probably Street Military's biggest promoter since 1992 plus he was my homeboy. And thats what I have to share about my otha homie.
I have heard you were a cold ass dancer back in the day, do you still get down like that?
Oh hell naw main, I left the breakdancin, poppin, and tickin back in the eighties but I ain't gonna lie, a nikka do miss them days.
AC Chill told me that you were his favorite MC, how does it make you feel when a legend says that about you?
It makes me feel like a real acceptable MC when a Undaground O.G. like A.C. give me that much credit cause when I was young I seen him battle on the corner of MLK and Belfort at this chinese rest. called "Chirps" and he was comin with shyt back in the eighties that would swallow these nikkaz asses in this new millenium.
What do you think about the state of Hip-Hop today?
The state of Hip-Hop today is Pimp, Political, Playa with a gang of ballin' but still gangsta.
What would you tell a young rapper in the game today?
Get some legal advise to assist you on the things that you don't understand while you negotiate on a deal before coming to a final agreement. Exersise your freestyle, and try to write until you have a library of shyt.
Are you currently workin on any new material?
In the fifteen months that I have been locked up for, I done completed four albums worth of songs, and came up with hundreds of concepts for the future.
Is there a chance that you can record these albums over the phone like Mac Dre or X-Raided have done in the past?
That's no problem, While I was still in the county I went off on three of Icey Hott's new tracks all the way thru non-stop. So when I bench warrant back to the county for my appeal we can make somethin happen cause then I'll be able to use the phone daily. It's fukked up on that note right now cause in the Texas Prison System we only get to the the phone once every three months. That's some weak-ass shyt.
Is there any unreleased Pharoah Material that the fans will be able to buy from you in the future?
I have alot of unreleased material and it ain't shyt to put some of it on a cd and make it available for the fans.
Do you feel the SPC/Killa Klan will rise above and get their proper respect in this tainted rap game?
That time has already come all we have to do is stay creative and productive and ain't no stoppin' us.
Will there ever be another Street Military album?
No doubt about that one, and watch what I tell you.
If you were not involved with rap, what would you like to be doing?
Runnin' my own chain of buttnaked clubs all across America and hopin that bizness expands overseas.
The fans want to know what is the charge against you?
These hoes had a nikka charged with Aggravated Kidnappin and Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon, but I got the Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon dismissed cause the complainin witness on that charge voluntarily signed an affidavit of non-prosecution to withdraw that bogus ass charge and these bytches still gave a nikka fifty motherfukkin years aggravated. But I got this shyt on appeal and I got alot of action on giving this ridiculous amount of time back in a retrial. I was wrongfully convicted on some hoeshyt. The only light I can shed is that a fraud ass nikka and a burned out ass bytch shot me in a major cross that fukked off my freedom
Any last words to the fans?
I just wanted to think everyone that dropped a line in that thread that was sent to me...fans from all over the world....thats real.....Pharoah - The Thuggish King
