Instead of derailing the long ass Tinder thread I want to start a thread for Brehs thinking about dipping (and why they probably shouldn't)

I want this to be open ended so I will allow the thread to go where y'all take it

I plan on getting outta here when I retire and meet my financial/wealth goals. It’ll be somewhere in Latin America (Mexico, Panama, Honduras, Costa Rica). My wife is from Mexico, so it’ll likely be there.

I do want to keep a home here in the U.S. too. We’ll probably go back and forth.

This will be twenty years from now. Any tips?

What country?
How does your visa work? Is it an occupational visa?
Do you have family? How are they adjusting to the move if so?
Do you plan to stay away permanently?
Biggest upside of expat life?
Biggest downside?
In general, how do you support yourself?
Is there a language barrier to navigate?
How do the locals treat you?

I have a regular visa the only reason I'm in the DR is because I came to the states to handle some tax issues and to close out some business and to get documents that they would not give me at the embassy (The embassy is good for nothing) The world was locked down at that time so I had to get a special flight out (When you hear of them evacuating americans like they just did in Mozambique) understand you have to pay BIG MONEY for that. that ain't free.

I came to the DR because it was literally the only country that was open after I took care of all the business I could take care of in the states at that time.

I do have a retirement visa in Kenya and Tanzania though, but I'm trying to ride out Covid before I make my way back.

I'm single and most of my family as passed away.

I may go back to the states if I get some kind of long term illness but other than that I can't see it now, but I rule nothing out.

The freedom is the biggest upside the ability to do what I want when I want, To feel how white folks feel i.e not being scared of the cops and having people cater to you.

The biggest downside is the freedom. To have no responsibilities to not have anything to do you find yourself sleeping in every fukking day and then you have to get up to run to the store before curfew (in Covid times) in regular times this is negated by living in big cities where things are open late.

I support myself through my retirement checks and VA disability and savings but it's also dirt cheap.

Yes there's a language barrier in the DR because even if you speak spanish they speak a different slangy ass Spanish here. In Africa Kenya especially they all speak English.

The locals treat me great.

Save Money. Maybe if you're wife is Mexican living in Mexico would be Ok but I would live in Panama or Colombia if I were you.

Where It’s Not Safe
I left mainly because I lost my job and I either had to retrain for a new career or just retire. I choose retirement.

I rack my brain on going back, I can't do it there's no real incintive at best I'd like to get some kind of side hustle just to stay busy but going back to the rat race after living in perfect weather nah.

The white women are mainly in the hostels. Low key if you act like you're a local the white hoes would pay to fukk you. People talk about Brehs down here tricking but white folks trick heavy down here and always with the darkest person they can find.
What country u in again?

and do u have any thoughts on the passport hate?

I would say for most Brehs I'm not sure that the DR would be the best place to be an expat. On one hand there's tons of Brehs down here, You could be in Sosua and spend most of your money with ADOS people because there's a lot of Black ADOS owned businesses down here.

But that being said it's kinda expensive for what it is and it's kinda boring compared to other countries (mainly because it's so small)

I'm in the DR now Santo Domingo to be exact.

The passport hate is because Black men are literally building out here. Black Men own two of the nicest resorts in Sousa, they own the busggest restaurant in that town and the biggest one in puerto Plata. If this shyt keeps up there's gonna be a large productive class of Black ADOS men who basically bushed the Black US community. There's Brehs who literally just travel here who don't fukk with US women at all.

I know a breh who works in the movie business who has a GF down here that he's been for 16 years.

Compare your living conditions from your initial arrival to your current situation.

Can someone consistently roll solo without getting targeted or jammed (presuming the person sticks out from the locals)?

You would be a good canididate to come out here. There's a lot of older cats your age kicking it out here. You'd love the weather.

I wasn’t always old you know :mjcry:

but ya I used to be out there a lot between 2010-2013...I have an older cousin living there but he moved after I stopped taking trips...need to ask where he lives again...I’m tempted to say cabarete

Ton of Russian expats in DR, not directly from Russia though. I think they have Sweden or Norway passports.
