If your console is selling a lot more then the competitor and a lot more than both the consoles last gen at this point in their lives, basic mathematics should tell you that you should have a higher install base for EVERY genre. Making it seem as though this is some sort of anomaly just with shooting games is lazy journalism.

This isn't rocket science and I could have told you this.

Now if they had a study that showed the rate of increase for people playing shooters on the PS3 to PS4 as opposed to the Xbox 360 to XOne, that would be a much more viable statistic. But they didn't.

I've said this time and time again, gaming journalism is by far some of the laziest journalism you're going to get outside of flat out amateurs.

Rate of change=/=Increasing due to more overall units being sold.

I don't doubt these is an increase in the rate too, but I'd be interested to see how significant. Of course that would mean IGN would actually have to do some work and research, which is expecting too much.

Traditionally, the Xbox fanbase loves shooters. So the fact that many previously 360 owners are buying PS4s instead of Xbones means shooter fans are "switching to PS4" this gen.

I wouldn't be surprised if half the casuals who bought 360s last gen end up with PS4s when it's all said and done.

Lets be clear. If you want to have an online only system you obviously arent going with traditional sales. I feel you though ps4 is the console for shooters. I just wish that they had some good shooters. Killzone was subpar between titanfall, halo mcc (see metacritic), halo 5. Sales are sales. Lemmings will be lemmings. But xbox one has all the hits ps4 has and three very well reviewed exclusives.

Its crazy that sonytes play this marketing and sales game... meanwhile xboxers are playing xbox games.
