The bolded, I had to put the can down. The bolded is something I've been trying to wrap my head around for several years now. I ask myself somedays when did the culture become so accepting? Is it for the same reason that Black people are so forgiving, and even more so, forgetful? Regardless, it's sad. You know it's bad when the music and culture becomes less than a caricature, when it devolves into appropriation by a white woman with an Australian accent who basically mocks southern Black women for white audiences. Then to add insult to injury, Black artists will defend her in order to maintain their own shelf value in the master's house. Twenty years ago if someone told me this would have happened I wouldn't have believed them.
