Nicki kinda had a reason though, because the media hyped it up and were the entire reason why the issue even became a topic in the first place.
The sad part was, it was never an issue of who could rap better. Everyone would've told you it was Nicki.
And for Macklemore, he seems like he's a Hip Hop head (if we're to go off what his 2005 album kinda sounds like, which I listened to briefly, and the fact that he got the OGs on his album), but in terms of his music, yeah. Dude was making the type of music that could cue right into an Adele song. Whether you consider that a good thing or not is up to anyone's personal interpretation, but Hip Hop never embraced his music for a reason. I remember being on here when Kendrick got fleeced by him at the Grammys and we were all up in arms about it. Two years later, Kendrick ended up having the more critically acclaimed album, while Macklemore's album just came and went. I think if there's a lesson to be learned here, it's that we should never say this person is going to replace X and accomplish Y. Cause if that were true, this would've happened already. But good music and a strong fan base will always win out.
There'll be others.
But just like the ones before them, they too will fail.
