That tension between the (relatively) privileged Africans and poor whites played out across the diaspora in the slavery era.
They were called Ti Blancs, "little whites", in St. Domingue by the enslaved Africans in the fields, in the house, and by the free African class.

Poor whites had rights that even free relatively privileged Africans didn't have though.
