shyt like this is why Indy guys will never make it big. I can picture HHH and Vince going :dontlike: seeing shyt like this. Everything that could go wrong happened in that last sequence. Grabbing and tugging a guys neck after caving his head in. Having an obviously concussed worker try a high spot and land directly on his opponent knees. Complete bush league shyt. Could have easily called off the match in a work shoot injury angle and maintain everyones heat.

I like Davey, but I was shaking my head in disbelief when they let London try that SSP instead of just going with a KO finish or something and getting London some medical attention.

No way in hell WWE lets him into the company if he can't even take control of a simple matter like this. With the double stomp, shyt happens. Everything after that was the height of irresponsibility.

I like Davey

Why breh?

He's the indy-workrate version of the Miz. Once he was given the push to be the man, he completely sucked and became hilariously bad.

Both can still have good to great matches if the circumstances are right but overall they are "not gonna watch whatever the fukk they are doing" status.

OK, that Miz comparison is just ridiculous. Not even remotely comparable in any way. Davey can actually have good matches without having his hand held throughout it.

I've always blamed the crappiness of his title reign more on bad circumstance than on him. Yes, he's not that great of a promo unless he's drawing on personal issues. And there was about a 6 month or so period in 2011 where he got extremely masturbatory in his matches. And he still needs to learn how to design a finish without two or three unnecessary kickouts.

But did Davey really get the best chance to succeed? Got the belt, then had to wait 3 months before they got TV, the quality of which sucked. Got NO good storylines (9 months with Eddie Edwards, most of which was a holding pattern and the last part of which was extended beyond what should've been its conclusion for no reason? Would YOU think that would be successful?). And then proceeded to be made the scapegoat for ROH's problems when Steen got hot. The reign was terrible mostly because the booking was shyt. I'm not saying that Davey exactly helped anything, but I feel that he could've been positioned to succeed even given his flaws and it didn't happen.

Now that he's away from all of that, he's been putting on better, more restrained matches, which equals better work. He seems to be more loose with his character as well. Is he still kind of a prick? Yeah. But he's been looking better overall since he came back to ROH in September.

The Miz comparison was made on the sense of both chocking and getting worse once they got their big push. And even though they could still have good to great matches (Miz thanks to being carried, Davey because his dumbass style can keep the crowd interested on some occasions) they became a worse version of themselves.

Davey got progressively awful everywhere he went and even before he got the ROH belt, except when he didn't have to be his intense and annoying self (like his New Japan tours and either a very small indy show, a throwaway PWG match, or the already explained "perfect crowd" scenario). It was like the moment he was giving the "new indy king" moniker he went overboard with his style and threw away all the potential he showed in 08'-09'.

Haven't watched anything from him since last year. But his matches had been masturbatory from way longer than 6 months. I gave up on the guy and have no intentions on giving him ANOTHER shot to be honest.

Add to that the fact he's been retiring for the last 3 years, been an a$$hole to promoters and seems to really believe his respect+intense gimmick and there's no way see something likable about the guy.

I always thought Davey had the talent but he would always try to come off as a smart ass during his PWG matches (atleast live, I don't know how they translated to video).

Is the video of Paul's SSP online?

Regarding the bolded: Yeah, that does make it difficult to like him as a wrestler. I just separate the two. Good wrestler, but I'd be wary of actually booking him because he tends to be a jackass. I THINK he's developing a sense of humor about things, though.

I'm not saying that you're wrong about all of this, I'm just contesting the degree of all of it. For instance, I thought he was fine until he had that match with Eddie at Best in the World and seemingly thought that all of his matches should be 30+ minute roundhouse-and-kickout-fests (when did you sour on him?). But that seemed to have been largely righted after the Elgin match and his sabbatical after dropping the belt. He's better about it now, but his finishes still need some work, as he tends to get into kickout-fest mode a bit too much.

I'm not super gung-ho about Davey, but from what I've seen of him, he's been fine. Not exactly great, but fine.

After Death Before Dishonor VIII. To me, that great match with Tyler Black was the beginning of his downfall style-wise (as a singles). After that he became very hit or miss imo, specially in ROH.

The Eddie match at BITW was just a confirmation of what was happening to him as a performer since the DBD match and it just became even worse.

I had hope again after watching him in New Japan but that didn't last long and he wasn't "that" Davey in the indys.
