Florida has a drug testing policy and it's an utter disgrace with just around 3% testing positive.
Three percent. Far lesser than the expected average. And at what cost?

Nearly two years later, the New York Times released the most comprehensive data yet on how the law fared.
In the four months that Florida’s law was in place, the state drug-tested 4,086 TANF applicants. A mere 108 individuals – 2.6 percent – tested positive. This is much lower than the 8.13 percent of all Floridians, age 12 and up, estimated by the federal government to use illegal drugs. This was in direct conflict with the argument made by Gov. Rick Scott, who said the law was necessary because welfare recipients used drugs at a higher rate than the general population.
The absurdity of this law is magnified when you realize how much it cost the state to run this program. Florida spent $118,140 reimbursing the 3,938 TANF applicants who tested negative for drugs. That is far more than any money saved by the program. And that’s only part of the cost to the state to run this program. There are also the administrative costs, staff costs, and, of course, the litigation costs. Furthermore, the testing program didn’t deter individuals from applying for help.

Drug testing only benefits drug testing companies and saves no one money. Ever. Anywhere.

Most people don't like to mooch off the rest of society.
A small percentage do. And there needs to be incentives to get people back to work.
But...and this is important...you don't just destroy a good social safety net that helps the vast majority of people because of a few rotten apples.

Welfare should be ONLY available for the sick and elderly and not be for bums who are probably more fitter than me but decide to stay on the couch and smoke all day.

Welfare is one of the reason for the decline of the black family.

Preposterous, for the simple fact that the majority of people on Welfare are white people.

The reason lots of minorities are on welfare is overwhelmingly connected to education and opportunity. Not a social program.
Educated people go to school longer, get better jobs, wait longer to have children, etc. All factors that decrease the likelihood of the need for financial aid like welfare.

Eliminating Welfare doesn't automatically make people smarter. It doesn't get them better jobs. It doesn't make them any less likely to engage in intercourse.

Those of you defending this are being very naive, this is deeper than drugs. This is a new form of keeping poor people down, the same way they try to keep criminals in the prison system. Plenty of competent parents smoke weed, all this will do is make poor children go out and commit crimes because their stomachs are growling.

No one is arguing about what the majority of welfare recipients are....I'm well aware it's white people.

Welfare made it easier for black women to push black men out of raising their kids. In the end you end up with 70% out of wedlock rate.

Atrocious if you ask me.
