Yeah these clowns don't get it, it's all about being able to find a way to make use of what you learned in your degree. Sure not all degrees are the same, some you have to go a little further before you can make real use of them, but to say they're useless

Well I don't live in the US (I live in the Caribbean) so you might not know the uni I went to. I have my Bsc in Computer Science from the University of Hertfordshire in England. Then have a branch in my country (Trinidad) so I was able to get the degree locally (First class honors too :mynicca.

Double major in journalism and psychology and parlayed it into a career in sports media I work in all three facets of the media so take a guess if I'm making in the six figures or not But degrees are supposedly meaningless

My roommate was trying to talk down on degrees today. He basically said that because he knew people that had them that aren't doing anything with them that they were "worthless". He dropped out of college and has no degree. I'm the only person amongst my roommates that has a degree. They all work in bars and restaurants. I'm unemployed now but I've had real interviews with pretty impressive companies. Shyt, I have nothing against it or act like I'm better than someone cause I got a degree...but I went to college to get that paper son, and pretty soon I will so I'm not knocking the players or the game at all.

I just don't see how wanting to work in bars in restaurants up into the 30s is a viable option, but I see it alot out here in BK. F*ck that. I want a salary and benefits, and to get enough money to start my own ventures and stop begging people for a job. F*ck that.

What field is your degree?

That's irrelevant, he has a point. STEM majors advocate for more and pound their chests for owning them, but you really don't want an influx of STEM majors, especially if you enjoy that nice salary you earn. We do have entirely too many kids having to remediate math at the university level, but they also are terrible at English. Reform is needed across the board, but everyone can't be a STEM major. We do need more blacks - and minorities in general - in the STEM field, however.

That's the other part of the equation. Not only does a degree increase your chances of financial success,you get to work in a field you love to do. I don't even consider what I do for a living work. That's how fun it is. I basically get paid alot of money to have fun. My degree and internships did that. No disrespect to people working in restaurants but that's something I wouldn't want to do for the rest of my life.

My degree is in engineering and ive worked in it for a few years. The business I'm getting into has nothing to do with engineering though. I'm glad I picked engineering over anything else but anyone in industry will tell you to not stay in it for life.
