If you had Shahid Khan money to start a wrestling promotion in 2001 what would be your direction?

I would have taken the Lucha Underground approach: seasonal, pre-taped shows instead of live, with actual actors playing some of the characters instead of just wrestlers. Really position my company as an alternative or companion to WWE as opposed to competition. Focus on younger talent as opposed to bringing in a bunch of old guys to take all my money doing the same old shyt they were doing in WWF and WCW.
nikka she was 9 :dame:
Fam was about to take this child in and raise her to be the perfect pro wrestler on some Dragon Ball Z shyt. :mjlol:

I think in 2001 you would have still needed a couple of big TV guys from WCW to at least bring in some attention to your promotion, especially to get suitors.
The indie wave/new star thing wasnt built yet to a point where you could just start a company with lesser knowns and rely on their in ring stuff. Eventually after 2 years sure but if Savage, Goldberg or Sting were around I think you'd them. Obviously not overstock with ex WCW and WWF guys to give the TNA/Washed effext either

- Secure a deal with Fox by any means. More homes, more eyeballs, more dollar signs.

- See if I can't buy out some big names like Goldberg or Sting (Preferably Goldberg, since he's younger and could still likely go at the time) from their Time Warner contracts to give the network their recognizable star. While I will try to go younger, it pays to have an established name on the roster that people will tune in for.

- Take the seasonal approach, having a cohesive story arch for around 20ish episodes and try to establish working arrangements with other feds so my guys and girls eat during the off season.

- SIGN. PAUL. HEYMAN. Sign whatever I need to get him away from the WWE and have him on retainer to bounce ideas off of because he at the very least knows how to maximize the strengths of a character while minimizing the weaknesses until they're needed (Not letting his fat ass near the books, though.).

I agree these matches are boring as shyt now. nikkas do a finish line 10 times in these mania matches like wtf.
Disagree completely

Sick of that bullshyt choreographed flippy nonsense. They need to bring back that gritty brawling wrestling style that Austin/HHH (2000)/ Foley used to do in the mainevent scene. Leave that cruiserweight style for the first match or something.

They need to lure known wrestlers from the WWE that fans are familiar with. This is how WCW worked. They wont get nowhere by giving random indie stars mainevent push

If someone wants MMA then watch MMA
You realize this is 2001 we re talking about here

In 2001 I would have to think about it... a lot of the top WCW guys were sitting at home still on their WCW contracts right?

In 2002 I would have backed up the brinks truck on Steve Austin's driveway to get him to work for my promotion while he was sitting at home pissed off at Vince

Overall I would go for gritty character-based story arcs with plenty of intrigue and payoffs... maybe like Lucha Underground but less mysticism based.

A lot of those young WCW guys would have been money in the right system. The Natural Born Thrillers, Lance Storm, 3 Count, Mike Awesome. Just take it back to the basics of promos and matches and you would have had a strong core talent that could go. Throw the bag at Jericho and make him top guy and see if that motivates Malenko, Eddie, and Silhouette to come over and you’ve got something that works. Not to mention the current gen of main eventers were fresh out of training schools. Imagine Brock going there instead of OVW.

Don't forget AJ Styles which still baffles me how wwe didn't lock him up but I think JR admits he fukked up on that one.
