If you condense ‘Reasonable Doubt’ down to an ‘Illmatic’ size track list … what tracks would you take off and would it be better than Illmatic?

RD sounds sonically more modern

While IM sounds more classically boom bap and reflects something we almost lost in 1994-1995 as Hip-Hop production began to evolve sonically, what we lost has reemerged in recent times as like a throwback boom bap movement from acts like Griselda and those associated

This is probably a topic for @Art Barr

By I am right now @‘ing his crib and he didn’t even give me his number :francis:
Rd sounds just as old as illmatic 2 any kid born in they year 2000.

Friend or foe is so raw…short and sweet.

D’Evils is a top 5 Jay-Z song…

Y’all really feelin ain’t no nikka over gems feom DJ Premier?
I agree on the Premo gems thing but Aint no nikka wasn't that hard, but c'mon that was was the first huge single from him and it actually lightens the mood of the album a lil.

I like Reasonable Doubt but nothing on it touches The World Is Yours, Memory Lane, One Love, Halftime, It ain't Hard To Tell, NYSOM:yeshrug:D'Evils, Can I Live, Dead Presidents, Coming of Age, Bring It On are the best of Reasonable Doubt and they are not in the same echelon as the best of Illmatic.

Nas was bigger in 94 than Big and Pac

Illmatic sold more 1st week
Biggie didn't blow until he hopped on remixes

More revisionist history

This right here is complete bullshyt. Juicy alone is bigger than any Nas song especially in 94. Pac had I Get Around, Dear Mama and Keep Your Head Up.

Dear Mama is 95 after he was locked up and sensationalism came about

Pac was great but not too big in the rap scheme of things in 94..even out West. The star was Snoop

Snoop was the star but Pac was definitely right there along with Ice Cube. I Get Around was a top 10 billboard hit and Keep Ya Head Up was platinum, both released in 93. Not to mention the fame from Juice and Poetic Justice.

RD is my favorite hip-hop album of all time at this point but I don't think I'm that biased

that run of songs of NY State of Mind through to One Love is as close to a perfect run of songs you're going to get
if RD had 22 Two's at track seven instead track eight after Can I Live.. its runs it close

No he wasn't :what:

We fukked with Pac but not like that

Despite success of a couple songs, he didn't get on that level until he was locked up and Temptations video popped off and then Dear Mama dropped

I see the campaign continues...

FR FR....I was browsing the booth and this is crazy. They even said this shyt was better then DMX its dark n hell its hot.

Reasonable Doubt is a great album; despite the overall mix being not so great.

But that album didn't move the needle at all.

There is not one original or groundbreaking aspect of it.

There was so SO MUCH heat coming out at the time. so much ORIGINAL heat. RD was G league compared to other shyt dropping.

The only thing that REALLY makes that album stands out is that its jay z's pinnacle lyrically. Thats it.

Who tf is "we" NY is not the end all to rap fans. Pac was huge in the west, midwest and south.
