used to share similar sentiments. had the luxury of travelling to 10+ african countries now. my thoughts:
africans period could benefit from the AA perspective... in my extensive travels on the continent, the concept of blackness is, ironically, strongest in america BY far. there is a very deferential, embarrassing reverence on whiteness/white people by many in african countries that i rarely see in america. in the states, a breh is more likely to have that dog in him...
as a black expat, you gonna get a lot of love shown, but you're still an expat and a possible lick. people here need to understand: $$$ blurs any reality of ' black unity' and a lot of folks are living in the trenches. this is why african despots exist. you seeing a breh as a 'brother' and he's seeing you as food cuz you have the privilege of travelling out of your own country.
lastly, you'd be surprised by much of the ELITE/upper middle class in these countries are comprised of non-blacks. unless you wanna live the gully life, this is going to be the reality you have to reckon with. i was recently in a 5-star hotel in a country i won't name for a few days recently and aside from the old white man/young african girl pairing, i was one of the few brehs there not working
... funny enough, i wanted to stay at another hotel, but i spurned it when i read a review from a african patron stating that the primarily black staff gave them shyt service compared to white/asian patrons in their own country. all things to consider.
me... if the youth pop. there don't make strides to shifting the mentality of dependence... fostering economic growth and respect on the global stage... i'm good for now. i'll stay in ATL or la la land
