Isn't it true that, according to your theology, a person who works hard, gives to charity, pays his taxes, etc. will ultimately have the same fate of the non-recovered gang banger just for not accepting the biblical stories as true. How could a righteous deity allow a righteous person to burn for eternity?

you're asking me a question from the inside of christianity and then from the outside. you cant do both at once.
if we are to believe the bible is TRUE. therefore everything in it is true. therefore you cant be saved unless you accept Jesus into your life. if you cant do that, you are DENYING the son, which therefore means you're denying the father.
what would you earthly father care if you were a great person outside of the home, if you never acknowledge him as your father or your mother as your mother or your siblings as your siblings. there's no way he would let you into the house.

The analogy fails because, well for one we can test and see if it's likely that a man claiming to be my father actually is in reality. Any God claiming to be my father is unverifiable. But the larger point is ... why do you assume a man would turn his back to a person who was skeptical of their kinship? I mean, for your analogy to apply, my earthly father would have to be someone I'd never seen in person, never spoke to face to face, had no objective proof that he'd even been in my life the entire time ... to me he'd be as foreign as a random person on the street. And you're saying that my skepticism has him so upset that he'd rather see me tortured for the rest of my life than to let me stay in his home ... despite all the good things I've done with the family I've known for my entire life. Just the mere fact that I'm skeptical of his claims is enough to let me suffer?
If you think a father, regardless of what his son does, would agree to him being brutally tortured for an extremely long time, then I question your relationship with your father/children. If I had a son, I couldn't imagine a crime he could do in which I'd be okay with him being tortured for years ... even if it was something I thought was truly vile. Unconditional love is just that ... unconditional. That means I love you even if you don't love me back. That is not the character of the Christian god. That god is particularly cruel, IMO.
