I thought you wanted less govt.

Unless we're actually throwing stones, I'd say we're well within our "right" to put public pressure on these corporations to change their business practices

What's wrong with pressuring businesses to change their practices? Isn't that the free market? Companies getting punished by the public for behaving in ways that people find unethical or undesirable? Self-regulation and all that? Wouldn't that be preferable to getting the government involved unnecessarily?

Exactly...homie seems to only hate the government if he thinks it'll regulate businesses in some way he disagrees with (ie. at all). But as soon as public pressure is used to the same end, all of a sudden it's "Leave those poor law-abiding megacorporations alone  ! If you want to change something then it should be through the government!".

:ehh: My fault. I naturally assume the free market to be in the bushes and govt. force to be the vehicle for any change the left wants.
Please disregard my post and carry on utilizing the magnificent market mechanism :blessed:

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
they pay what people are willing to work for. If nobody is willing to work for minimum wage then companies would have to increase wages to attract workers.

there is an abundance of workers willing to work for low wages out of desperation and therefore create a large pool of potential employees.

edit......And as long as there are more applicants than positions offered at Walmart, they can pay whatever they want unless there is a federal mandate.

so if the cost of a living wage is deferred to foodstamps by its workers raising their wages wont do shyt for them, just disqualify them for other services like medical etc. They should just stfu and deal with their menial jobs which require no skills.

This assume equal bargaining power and that individuals are not accepting those wages out of economic coercion. This is exactly the logic that used to be used to protect child labor laws, ridiculous work weeks and low benefits. People need to stop using the term "willing" and start using the term "have to." People are not in a position to negotiate for their wages. That would require collective action in instances such as these. Recognition of this fact is the entire basis of labor unions.

How the fukk is this dude Poster of the Year? :dahell:
HL posters rallied around the one dude in the race who wasn't a regular while trollm3 and Broletariat split the vote. :manny:

With that said, Dead7 I have really known what you were talking about for going on about a month now. You need to edit your paragraphs or something. This is coming from the most typo prone poster in here.
