yes, it is. demographics are not in their favor. like i've said before, once texas becomes mexico in the next 20 years, dems are going to have this state and it's 38 electoral votes too. if republicans don't get in with hispanics some way then it will be impossible for them to compete nationally.

I agree to extent but more so because the more socially liberal side of the republican party will eventually break off from the rest of the party which has been hijacked by christian nut cases. I think you will eventually see a party born of traditional conservative economic values while being socially liberal.

Ya republicans are gonna have to adjust the platform

I predict the following:

1. Republicans will turn pro immigration. Jeb bush has already hinted at this

2. Tone down the anti gay stuff a bit, endorse civil unions

3. They will actively go after latinos, Asians and Indians

I think they'll survive just fine

This is their last best shot. Gore won the popular vote in 2000. It was the shenanigans in Florida that got Bush elected. In 2004, they used the war and terrorism to get back in power. 2008 was a clear victory for the Democrats. 2012 even with a bad economy they are losing because their Economic and Tax policies no longer hold credebility with the American people and their social values no longer resonate with a large part of the electorate. Add to it the shifting demographics and it becomes much harder for them to win in the future with their current platform. Their best bet is for Romney to win this election so that they will be credited with the upswing of the natural business cycle. They have a lot on the line as a party.

W was pro immigration like a couple years ago. McCain too

They want to survive and businesses want cheap labor.... They'll do it

If mitt was smart he'd be pro immigration and civil union right now, he might actually win the election in that case

I'd vote for that party, it just makes sense, fiscal responsibility + social liberalism...that's ideally what the democrats should have been...some conservative blood in the liberal pool would help things out.

Here's the problem though right.

IF
50% of the electorate is Democrat
25% is - Pragmatist (that's the new party btw)
25% GOP

Dems will never lose meaning the Pragmatist would have to either side with the GOP for a shot and or get some dems to convert

switchimg to a pro immigration platform is not a reach because like you said other notable republicans have done it before

but the marriage and abortion stuff? the tax cuts trickle down economic policies? thats the bread and butter, theyre dying with that (maybe not so much the econ)

Cheap labor isn't going to resonate well when tens of millions are unemployed and underemployed.

Also giving citizenship to border jumpers will be seen as a handout.

The Republican base is racist the last thing they want are more colored faces around.
