Ethiopia: Bridging the trust gap, the Oromo-Amhara conference in Bahir Dar

Over the years, TPLF’s answer for the trust deficit has been causing more of it and spreading it far and wide. It kept the two largest ethnic groups at odds with each other by skillful manipulations, by creating and fanning misgivings, lies and deceptions, even by hiring mercenaries to manufacture incidents that could instigate conflicts and bloodsheds between members of the two ethnic groups.

Two largest groups being the Oromo and Amhara.

I've heard that the ruling ethnic group has been pitting other two ethnic groups against each other for decades. And those two ethnic groups are now coming together to push back against the ruling group. Am I getting Ethiopia mixed up with another country (in Africa) or am I near correct?
You are right that is Ethiopia. The country's power is concentrated in an ethnic group that isn't among the two most populous and as a result has tried to balance against the bigger ones (Amharas and Oromos) through a mix of carrot and stick inducements, and alliances with the other ethnic groups in the country. There's been unrest throughout the Amhara and Oromo regions over the past year, and thats empowered the latter in the official ruling party coalition

The Republic of Biafra
In any case, TPLF control of the EPRDF resulted from the TPLF's dominant role in resistance to the Derg. That historical pathway is utterly bound to Ethiopia's context and unlikely to repeat itself in Nigeria. If the Nigerian government fought a 4-5 way civil war and lost, it's unlikely that those ethnic rebel groups would want to reunite the country in any case.

I see. I thought you were referring to the Somali-Oromo clashes of the last few weeks. People have suspected govt involvement in deliberately sowing discord there too.
Truth is the TPLF is aligned with DDSI (the Somali state)in this conflict. Liyu police are relatively well equipped and the region has gotten greater autonomy in recent years. Theres always been border and land disputes with the Oromo region but theyve become interlinked with the Oromos getting more politically assertive as of late.
