I have both the traditional passport and the card... but understand that the card is only a convienient ID. It isn't reccomended purely for travel because numerous countries are unfamiliar with it. They need the book to stamp.

If I get carded or asked for ID locally tho I'll show my passport card, especially to pigs. I'm clearly a US citizen, so it lets them know I have both the means and oppritunity to travel which in turn lets them know that I may be in a tax brackett that can cause trouble for them should it go that route.
They like to harass ppl without means, but hesitate to bother ppl that can defend themselves. Most ppl in the hood don't have passports, so when the filthy pigs see one whilst they are making their harassment rounds it is an anomoly. They usually move on.

I think* you can fill it out online but you still need to talk to a physical human in order to get the application processed. I know renewals can be done online (just like car registrations) but not first time applicants. Be sure to go to walmart of cvs for your passport photos. I was about to take a selfie up there with my application and my girl still laughing at my ass for that shyt She saved me the embassment though

the card is for sea and land travel only

leaving would be the easy part. have you ever gotten a visa, even a tourist one? have you ever applied for a business visa with no invitation or sponsorship? student visa? do you know how much money you need for that?

everyone talking about leaving to live in other countries has no clue about residency and naturalization laws in other countries. they're not just gonna let you live there because you're unhappy with your own country

i guess someone could get away with that if they had the means to live a vacation-style life until they died (which they'd already be doing if they actually could, instead of @ORDER_66 talking about working as fisherman in thailand like that market is not at all saturated and just waiting for non-thai speaking foreigners to show up and catch all the fish )

the amount of fukkery i've seen in US and foreign consulate and/or visa offices is just and that's even if you're approved

good luck getting a job on an expired tourist visa from the country next door after crossing the border at an isolated mountain range

nah, difficult is the wrong word. impossible is more likely.

if you're serious about leaving, you need to have a qualified skill that another country is in need of and can't find among its citizens. or you need to apply for asylum, which is probably more difficult.
