in no other aspect of life are people willing to believe in something without any evidence other than religion

at work the other day we were having a friendly debate about big foot, I like to act like I believe in big foot just to encourage fukkery, so my friend at work asks one of our managers if he believed in big foot and he said "the only thing I believe in without proof is our lord Jesus Christ".

But I agree. If God won't accept me for being myself (he supposedly "made" me) then he can go fukk himself and isn't deserving of me calling him God.

Just live your life the best and most righteous way you know how and you'll be ok. If you honestly live a virtuous life and try to help others, you don't have to worry about hell. And if hell ends up being a fabricated tale, then you're still better off living righteously anyway.

It's not a dumb question because it's really asking why God views credulity as a virtue. This reward of heaven isn't dependant on how one lives, and what kind of person you are ... rather if you're willing to blindly accept a story. One that was passed by word of mouth over generations, written by unknown sources, translated from various languages, given to kings and other high status persons to edit and re-edit and remove text and insert text. It's reasonable for any person to be skeptical of a claim under these conditions. But again, according to the tenets of this religion, ultimately the only thing that matters in life is that you suspend your ability to use reason and logic that God supposedly gave you. How that makes sense to anybody, I'll never understand. And how someone can think this is a particularly "good" system, I'll also never understand.

tl;dr Why is overcoming a reasonable degree of skepticism virtuous?

When was the last time you saw a supernatural entity make ... anything? We know how some things form, and yes, in fact we know things some things form from chemical reactions. We don't know that gods exist and make/create things. You can't just god the gaps and think that's a valid argument.
