GNX slaps because it's 2024 and when Kendrick came out repping Compton but not spitting gangsta raps is what made him unique...for him to now embrace the street shyt makes it dope because it wasn't forced he is showing us all aspects of his art and now the wheel is on his street shyt ..
So as far as a conscious artist dropping anything in 2000 wouldn't be easy unless they were established like mos def or the roots or wu tang...but it's hard to speculate something like that

it would be 2nd aoty after mmlp.. Eminem was an huge cultural phenomenon in 2000, no rapper was going to outshine him that year..

anyways jurassic 5 paved the way for kendrick,, and their best album quality control came out in 2000 to little commercial success, although the underground crowd fukked wit it heavy of course..

West coast sound was still popular (eastsidaz, balance and options, last meal, restless) so sonically it would vibe. Also given it has hyphy sounds it some places before hyphy (hey now) it would be considered innovative.
Maybe a top 10 release still

Using creative voices and inflections has been a pretty substantial part of hip-hop for the last 40 years.

Do you nikkas even pretend to like it?

From A Tribe Called Quest, to Busta Rhymes, to Nas - it’s not unusual.
When has Nas ever done this and Busta doesn't sound cartoonish on his records like kbot on his records
