But its slightly different than WCW back in the day, even now when on demand is so important they'd need international and national american tv to make noise. That said landing Punk and Bryan might help them with that.

In fact their sole purpose since the 90s is to be simply an alternative.
It's laughable that people are depending on a wrestling company that reside on the other side of the world to be a serious threat to a company that travels all around the world & has TV deals in several different countries.

It’d have to get more outside eyes on them, or bring back packs of lapsed fans to have a significant impact. It’d be buzzworthy but I don’t think it’d make an immediate difference since their American fan base either watches both NJPW and WWE or atleast follows WWE.
