He's related to Gateway and supposedly Storm helped raise him as in the mutant concentration camp in his future.Though I doubt the Storm (they even cast doubt as to if it was Storm or not in later issues) part after they had them flirting and talk about dating in past x-men comics. Even though they aren't related it just seems weird to date your supposed adoptive grandmother.
